Bobby Wilson at SKUSA Super Nationals 14

This weekend in Las Vegas NOS Energy Drink supported athlete Bobby Wilson has been flat out whether he is in the kart or working to make his ride better.

In the kart Bobby is always flat out and on a circuit where he shifts 20+ times it is great to watch how fluid he is attacking the course. Out of the kart he works with his team testing and checking every compnent to get the edge on the competition.

Check out the pictures below to get a little behind the scenes look at the weekend for Bobby Wilson.

Fighting Spirit

Being an IZOD IndyCar driver affords me a lot of special opportunities; I get to travel to exotic locations, attend awards shows and VIP events, and meet all sorts interesting people. Not the least of these individuals are the kids that I get to meet each year during my annual trip to the Peyton Manning Children's Hospital. I have always had a great partnership with the St. Vincent Sports Performance team, so when they asked that I take a trip to the children's hospital in Indianapolis during the month of May I immediately said yes. I have always committed to an hour at the hospital but I have to tell you...I don't think I've ever gotten out in under an entire morning...these kids, their families and the staff are so wonderful and inspiring it makes a person not want to leave!!!

Each year the children participate in a helmet design competition where they color a helmet design and write a little bit about themselves. From the submissions I choose a design and have a helmet crafted in that design to be worn at a race during that season. This year's helmet was worn at Watkins Glen...and boy did it bring us all the luck we needed to battle from the back of the pack to a 6th place finish...very true to the fighting spirit in which it was designed!!!

2010 Indy 500 Parade

One of the most interesting things about the Indianapolis 500 event is that we spend weeks during the month of May at the track and in the community. It's really cool because it gives us the opportunity to interact with so many of the IZOD IndyCar Series's most dedicated fans. Here's a little video of the parade that my wife Susie took as we went through downtown Indianapolis before the race...

Introducing 'Lionheart'

So...I would assume that some of you don't know me yet. Guess I should introduce myself, huh? My name is Dan Wheldon (Daniel if you knew me from back home in Emberton, England). I have been racing cars in America since I came over the pond in 1999, but actually started racing in go-karts in England at the age of four. These days I race the #4 National Guard IndyCar...and I race it as fast as those four Firestone tires and 720lbs of Honda horsepower will take me. I won the IndyCar Championship back in 2005, the same year that I won the mack daddy of all motorsports events - The Indy 500.

When I'm not on the track or traveling for work I live in St Petersburg, FL with my wife, Susie, and my son, Sebastian. It's a great city with a ton of exciting things to do...not the least of which is the domestic season opener for the IZOD IndyCar Series, The Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. I always love racing on the streets of St. Pete!!! We were on course for a top 10 finish this year but my right rear suspension failed and luckily (for me, at least) I hit Mario Moraes before I hit the wall, otherwise it would have been a BIG one!

This particular St Pete race was especially cool for me for a couple of reasons:

First, I launched a photo-biographical book called "Lionheart" that myself and well-known sports photographer, Michael Voorhees, started together over three years ago. (Why "Lionheart", you might ask? Well when I first started racing a lot of the guys said that I raced with a lot of heart...occasionally not my head...but always a with a lot of heart, like the way that Richard the Lionheart fought in battle. And so the Lionheart mural became an image that has been put on the back of every helmet that I've had painted since. Only right that it be the name of the book that sums up my racing career to date.) So awesome to see that project finally come to fruition...and in my hometown no less!

And B) I got to wear my first specially designed NOS helmet of 2010!

For those who don't know...the race cars and the firesuits that we wear pretty much belong to the teams and its sponsors. They get to do whatever they see fit with them in terms of design. But a driver's helmet...that's a driver's one place to show what he/she is about. It is our singular resource for showing who we are out there from any sort of personal or fashionable perspective....and oh, since I'm introducing myself here I suppose I have to be honest...word on the street is that I am pretty fashionable. Haha!!! So needless to say, it was very cool for me to get to start the season with a NOS helmet. I wanted people to know that I was fueled up and ready for victory, and since I had my NOS nearby to keep me going...I definitely was!!!

Next week I'll send over some video from the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. IZOD shut down Hollywood Boulevard for an Indy Racing League red carpet event and pit stop competition...it was pretty sweet.

Stay tuned!
